💡 Trivia

Director

  • IT: Chapter Two was directed by Andy Muschietti, who also directed It (2017).
  • The film completes Muschietti’s two-part adaptation of Stephen King’s novel, moving from the Losers as children to the Losers as adults.
  • Gary Dauberman wrote the screenplay after co-writing the first film.
  • The sequel keeps the emotional core of childhood trauma while expanding the story into an adult reunion horror epic.

Cast / Casting

  • Jessica Chastain plays adult Beverly Marsh, while Sophia Lillis returns as young Beverly.
  • James McAvoy plays adult Bill Denbrough, taking over the role played as a child by Jaeden Martell.
  • Bill Hader’s performance as adult Richie Tozier was widely singled out by critics and horror fans.
  • Bill Skarsgård returned as Pennywise after playing the character in the 2017 film.
  • Stephen King makes a cameo as the owner of the Secondhand Rose antique shop.

Soundtrack / Score

  • Benjamin Wallfisch composed the score for IT: Chapter Two.
  • Wallfisch also scored It (2017), giving both films a connected musical identity.
  • The score mixes childhood melancholy, carnival horror, distorted lullaby textures, and large-scale monster-movie intensity.
  • The film also uses needle-drop songs and memory-triggering cues to connect the adult Losers to their past selves.

Location

  • The story is set in the fictional town of Derry, Maine.
  • Production took place largely in Ontario, Canada, including Toronto, Oshawa, and Port Hope.
  • Port Hope again served as a key stand-in for Derry, as it did in the 2017 film.
  • Pinewood Toronto Studios was used for interior and set work during production.

Behind-The-Scenes

  • The film was produced by Barbara Muschietti, Dan Lin, and Roy Lee.
  • New Line Cinema, Double Dream, Vertigo Entertainment, and Rideback were among the production companies involved.
  • Warner Bros. Pictures released the film domestically on September 6, 2019.
  • At 169 minutes, the film is notably long for a mainstream studio horror release.
  • Box Office Mojo lists the production budget at approximately $79 million and the worldwide gross at approximately $473.1 million.

Nostalgia

  • The movie plays heavily on the audience’s connection to the young Losers from It (2017).
  • The sequel revisits key Derry locations, childhood fears, and memory fragments from the first chapter.
  • For Stephen King fans, the movie brings in more of the adult storyline that was central to the novel and the 1990 miniseries.
  • The film’s mix of old friendships, forgotten trauma, and a town that never fully changes gives it a melancholy reunion-movie quality beneath the horror.

Easter Eggs

  • Stephen King’s cameo includes a joke about Bill Denbrough’s disliked endings, nodding to a frequent criticism of King’s own work.
  • The antique shop scene lets King appear inside an adaptation of one of his most famous novels.
  • The film includes callbacks to the Losers’ tokens, childhood clubhouse, and individual fears from the first movie.
  • Pennywise’s 27-year return cycle mirrors both the story’s timeline and the real-world gap between the 1990 miniseries and the 2017 film.
  • The movie’s ending gives Richie’s arc more emotional weight through a reveal not emphasized the same way in earlier adaptations.

Misc.

  • IT: Chapter Two is rated R for disturbing violent content and bloody images throughout, pervasive language, and some crude sexual material.
  • The film is the second half of the two-film adaptation of Stephen King’s 1986 novel It.
  • Box Office Mojo lists the film’s original release worldwide gross at approximately $473.1 million.
  • The film’s 169-minute runtime became one of the most discussed parts of its critical reception.
  • Your 3 Guys and a Flick ratings page lists It: Chapter Two as Episode 84, with Don rating it 3.75, Ken rating it 2.00, Jon rating it 4.50, and an overall rating of 3.42.
