Trivia
-
- Ensign Jesse L. Brown was the first African-American aviator for the US Navy.
- The US Navy named a ship in honor of Ensign Jesse L. Brown, the USS Jesse L. Brown FF1089. It was Knox Class, commissioned 17 Feb 1973. Decommissioned 27 July 1994.
- Wenatchee Washington and surrounding mountains doubled for Korea during flying scenes.
- For the dogfight scenes, director J.D. Dillard hired Kevin LaRosa, who oversaw and designed the flight sequences for Top Gun: Maverick (2022).
- Six actual Corsairs were used in the movie and many of the flying scenes used the Sea Fury plane for close up flying sequences according to the Executive Producer Glen Powell during an interview with Ward Carroll on You Tube.
- Unlike Glen Powell’s previous naval aviation-based film Top Gun: Maverick (2022), most of the flying scenes in this movie were done using CGI, as the jets featured in the film are currently decommissioned.
- The leather G-2 flight jacket was not allowed to be worn off base.
- Second film based on naval aviation featuring Glen Powell released in 2022, following Top Gun: Maverick (2022).
- Glen Powell also worked with Joe Jonas’ younger brother, Nick on Scream Queens
- Near the beginning of the film, two Corsairs are seen criss-crossing the centerline of the taxiway. This maneuvering is done with “tail-dragger” type aircraft due to the angle the aircraft sits which prevents the pilot from being able to see the centerline otherwise.
- Jonathan Majors and Serinda Swan have both appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with Majors playing Kang the Conqueror in Loki (2021) and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantamania (2023) and Swan playing Medusa in the Marvel Television series Inhumans (2017).
- The Medal of Honor that Glen Powell is wearing toward the end of the film is the actual Medal of Honor that was awarded and worn by Tom Hudner Jr.
- In Pensacola, Jesse Brown and Daisy Nix married in secret, as naval cadets were not allowed to marry until their training was complete, under threat of immediate dismissal. Nix took a room in Pensacola, and the two visited one another on weekends.

Quotes
[Brown walks towards the restroom mirror and breathes deeply]
Jesse Brown: You ain't shit.
[breathing deeply again]
Jesse Brown: You ain't never landing that plane, nigger.
[continues to breathe deeply]
Jesse Brown: Boy.
[continued deep breathing]
Jesse Brown: Your monkey-ass shouldn't even be flying.
[Continues to breathe deeply as tears flow down his face. He grunts before shaking his head off and looks down. He then wipes his tears and looks at the mirror again before heading to the USS Leyte]
